Since opening its doors in 2014, FUFU (meaning lucky) has established itself as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area to enjoy lunch or dinner, cooked the authentic way, whilst not breaking the bank.

You only have to take a look at their 4 ½ star rating on trip advisor to see why diners return again and again. Their menu offers a variety of traditional dishes including seafood specialities. Owners Jessica and her husband Chen moved to the UK in 2012 having previously run a restaurant in Beijing. Jessica said “Our menu is a reflection of our heritage and although we have adapted elements to suit the western palette, such as using less oil in our cooking, all our marinades and sauces are home-made. Our ingredients are sourced from Chinese suppliers to ensure authenticity and this enables us to produce simple food, with the best quality ingredients.”

FUFU, with its friendly atmosphere, does a great job of catering for a variety of dietary requirements, with plenty on offer for vegetarians. The team at Anthony Webb were happy for Jessica to choose our menu and we were treated to an incredible array of traditional dishes. The highlight of our starters included chicken satay and pork ribs. Delicious crispy aromatic duck followed, marinated in FUFU’s home-made sauce. Our main course included sizzling chicken in black bean, special fried rice, and amazing dry fried French beans with preserved vegetables. We also had the pleasure of their prawns presented in a fried noodle basket. There was very little food left and what was left was quickly packed up by Martin to take home.

There’s a lot to be said about the levels of customer service received at small independent establishments, Jessica and her team were attentive throughout. Their menu often changes to reflect their customer’s likes and recommendations. Most recently they added Vietnamese food to the menu, light dishes served with plenty of herbs and mint to compliment the summer vibe. Challenge yourself to try something new when you’re next out for a meal you certainly won’t be disappointed at FUFU.

Open for lunch and dinner Wednesday-Monday – Closed on Tuesday. A special lunch time menu includes a soup starter, followed by a main course accompanied with boil rice for only £6. Takeaway and delivery is also available. For diner expect to pay between £15-£20 per head.

FUFU can cater for private parties for up to 15 people at the rear of the restaurant that seats 45 in total.
