Summer is always a great time to live in Enfield as we are lucky to have a number of fantastic events happening across the borough, arranged by community groups and volunteers to help bring residents together.
Anthony Webb joined in the fun and celebrations at three of these events over the last month giving us the opportunity to connect with our clients and community at a grassroots level.
Conway Recreation Ground Centenary Celebrations
On Sunday, 29th June, Friends of the Rec, a group of volunteers at the Conway Road Recreation Ground, welcomed the community to the Rec for their centenary celebration, formerly opened by local resident Sir William Atkinson. Anthony Webb were proud to sponsor the celebration that, despite the rain, attracted neighbours and their families.
Keith Weller, chairman of Friends of the Rec, said: “More than 300 people braved some slightly 'iffy' weather to join the Friends of Conway Recreation Ground in celebrating the centenary of the creation of the park as a public space. The event was twinned with the Big Lunch encouraged nationally by the Eden Project. Visitors enjoyed a historical display, a World War I allotment stall, The Oakfield String Quartet, park tours, Punch and Judy, face painting of little creatures from the park, snacks, drinks, a treasure trail and lots of entertainment for children. The Friends of the Park appreciated the support of local business and the community and are delighted to say that the day raised some helpful funds for the continuing work in the Rec.”

The Palmers Green Shopping Carnival
On Saturday, 5th July, Green Lanes Business Association hosted the 2014 Palmers Green Shopping Carnival along Green Lanes. This year saw the addition of stalls on the Triangle, two music stages, one on Aldermans Hill and the second at the top of Hazelwood Lane. The crowds were entertained by the choir and drumming troop from Hazelwood School, stilt walkers and clowns, local Enfield Blaze cheerleaders that accompanied Enfield’s Carnival Queen and Costas Georgiou on their parade float as they travelled the length of our high street.
The great British weather did bring the occasional rain shower, even so, the event gave businesses the opportunity to introduce themselves to locals, many stopping to talk. Anthony Webb were giving out free Palmers Green tote bags, we still have a few left if you would like one, please pop into see us. It was also a great opportunity to tell people about our new office that will be opening on Aldermans Hill this August.
N21’s Super Summer Sunday
The Super Summer Sunday held at the Woodcroft Wildspace, on Woodcroft road, Winchmore Hill on the 13th July, entertained families with live music, children’s shows, bouncy castles, sporting challenges, orienteering as well as fresh food and local business stallholders.
Anthony Webb had a stand at the event and met with locals in the beautiful backdrop of the nature reserve. The event was well attended and raised £500 for three great causes.
Bob Ladell the lead volunteer at Woodcroft ,said, “A big thank-you to all the volunteers, stallholders and the Enfield community who helped make the N21 Supper Summer Sunday, organised by Dani and Tracy, in aid of the Nightingale Centre, North London Hospice and Woodcroft Wildspace a thoroughly successful day enjoyed by all. The plan came together! Do visit again soon and enjoy the tranquillity of the Wildspace.”
Dani from Stardust Events, based in Enfield is hoping to make the event an annual attraction in Winchmore Hill. Woodcroft is a place where people can bring their children to learn about nature - insects, birds, small mammals, pond life, plants and trees in a natural habitat. The next big community event to put in your diary is the Palmers Green Festival: Sunday, 7th August @ Broomfield Park, from 12.00pm to 7.00pm.
